🌸 Our takeaways from the Culture Push 2025 Show Don’t Tell Annual Symposium
We’re relishing the amazing set of events from June’s 2025 Show Don’t Tell Symposium! It was beautiful and memorable, and will have a lasting impact on our participants. This Symposium created a space where community members broadened their understanding of each other, themselves, and the concepts and principles we live by.
It was a pleasure to collaborate with our very talented Fellows and Associated Artists, fostering a space where their work and practices came out into the public to grow and evolve. Each used different ways of engaging with their audience, from somatic practices and introspective workshops to participatory demonstrations and community building. Events like Reparations Cafe, with Antoinette Cooper and Jaden Ramsey and Time Flies with Us with Suzanne Schulz took an introspective route, creating a space for participants to dive into their own relationships to their bodies and the concept of time, allowing for quiet moments of reflection. The artists each led their events with poise, setting a tone of tranquility to open up and think about what time means to them or how to listen to one’s body outside of the constructs of colonialism. Other events, such as Benin City 1400 with Cam Mbayo and Our Healthcare Reality & Our Healthcare Dreams with Megan Bent, featured knowledge-sharing based on individual expertise, each diving into the respective history and personal stories of their work.
Participants were able to learn more about disability activism and the architectural structures of ancient Benin City. These educational events culminated in a community artmaking process where participants created their own structure for Mbayo’s new Benin City and, for Bent, posters advocating for disability rights. During the artmaking process it was wonderful to share creative contributions, knowing that it would contribute to the larger projects.

Break the Silence provides space for people to share their lived experiences as someone (mis/un)diagnosed with bipolar disorder, as a loved one, a caregiver; an ally, or being a witness of someone having a manic-depressive episode.
On July 12, we are using facilitated conversations & a writing workshop to support each person's process of expressing and learning about the impact bipolar disorder has on our lives.
There'll be panels, community building games, snacks, music, writing, and sharing! Our hope is to build a community and deeper understanding for and with people with bipolar disorder, their caregivers, loved ones, allies. Learn more about the speakers and specific details here.
